September Schedule

My Summer

This summer’s adventures included a few trips with the kids (hello, Canada’s Wonderland, camping at Paradise Valley and visiting The Toronto Zoo!), starting up classes here at Break On Through Yoga (a big thank you to my summer students) and listening to a lot of yoga music while catching up on my reading.

The song that played repeatedly on this summer’s playlist was Deva Premal’s Brahma Nandam:
Brahmanandam parama sukhadam kevalam jnanamurtim

dvandvaateetam gagana sadrusam tatvamasyadi lakshyam

ekam nityam vimala machalam sarvadheesaakshibuutam

bhaavaateetam triguna rahitam sadgurum tam namaami.

(The universe of bliss, supreme happiness, pure unending knowing

Beyond the dualities, like the infinite space, the sole aspiration of all seeking

The one, eternal, pure, unmoving, the witness in all

Beyond states, beyond the three qualities, salutations to that true Guru.)

My reading list was varied but I really enjoyed “Myths of the Asanas: The Stories at the Heart of the Yoga Tradition” by Alanna Kaivalya and Arjuna van der Kooij. I also read a similar book called “Downward Dogs & Warriors: Wisdom Tales for Modern Yogis,” a book by Zo Newell. In future, I’ll be using these books to put together a yoga program for writers (let me know if this interests you) but for now, they’ve served me well in my classes, especially during Savasana (aka: corpse pose; the relaxation time we take at the beginning and end of class.)

I took some time early this summer for a couple of courses at East to West Yoga in Toronto and will be spending eight weekends there soon to work toward my next level of teacher certification with my fellow Yoga Exercise Specialist, Robin.

I hope your summer was as full of joyful moments as mine was. Let’s make fall just as memorable (hello, school days!)

Schedule

On this month's schedule (emailed to you), you might have noticed a couple of special events that will be occurring on September 11th and 25th (there will be more in October!) My teacher Angela Gordyn of Yoga Bliss Fitness is offering Community Classes for $5, taught first by Robin on September 11 and second by me on September 2. Angela spent many months getting us ready to teach and now, she’s giving us the opportunity to share that gift with the whole local yoga community. There are Facebook pages to sign up for the events (find them through Yoga Bliss Fitness/Angela.)

As usual, classes will be held Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights at 8 p.m. If those times don't work for you though, why not get a group of you and three friends together so we can work out a time that does work for you? You'll get a bit of a discount too ($8/person!) If a group session isn't what you're looking for, book a private session. Though private session fees are a bit more than group session fees, we'll work closely and get to know each other better so that I can work out classes tailored to you.

Just hoping to join my regular classes? I now have punch cards. For only $80, you get a 10 class pass; that's a savings of $2 per class.

Grab a business card while you're here! Then, grab 2 more for your friends.

My sister-in-law Angela designed my logo and my fees, schedule and notes page. I'm really happy with how it turned out and I love the cheerful yellow I get to look at every day on my blog page and on the business cards I ordered.

My Space

We've been working hard to make the Break On Through Yoga space really special. I hope you'll enjoy it too. Here are a few snapshots of what you'll see when you get here:

Looking Ahead

This summer, we've been working on breath & movement together, opening our chests and shoulders and quieting our minds. This fall, we'll continue to breathe, open up and look within.

What else are YOU interested in working on? Leave a comment to let me know how I can guide you through your practice.

Yours,

T.
